Wanzatika Lake is a classic walleye / pike lake, offering a variety of structures and depths to fish. Weedbeds, rock piles, sunken humps, rocky points and outcroppings, soft-bottomed bays and distinct breaklines offer a wealth of fishing opportunities. Small enough to easily navigate and “learn”, yet large enough to offer diverse fishing situations and multi-species angling, this rocky little lake has it all.At Wanzatika, it is possible to catch walleyes a dozen different ways. However, nothing can top a 3 or 4-inch twistertail jig tipped with a piece of worm. Pink, yellow, white and chartreuse are consistently the colours preferred by north-country walleyes.
Some of the best spots to fish are close to the camp – a stretch of shoreline to troll, a fast-breaking point to jig, a rocky outcropping to probe. Excellent walleye action can be found while fishing the lake’s scattered, deeper weedbeds (7 to 12 feet) or near rocky outcroppings and points.Northern pike are everywhere at Wanzatika. Big pike – fish between 15 and 22 pounds – are caught and released every season – most on casting / trolling spoons, flashy in-line spinners, big body baits, spinnerbaits or jerkbaits.
